Flinders University: Refugees face poverty and food insecurity

Australia: A new study by Flinders University focuses on the experiences of  10 young Afghani refugee women in Adelaide in 2017. The findings highlight ‘despite social services support, there are still difficulties in refugees  accessing appropriate food due to significant cultural and religious differences, problems with language, housing and employment marginalisation’. Language and cultural issues, limited income and difficulties in sourcing halal ingredients among barriers are causing additional stresses in their immigration experience.
